What do we do?
At your first visit we conduct a thorough examination of your jaw, neck and lining of your mouth, checking not only for signs of mouth cancer but any one of a thousand other conditions that can affect your mouth. We screen your gums for gum disease and of course check your teeth. We will often recommend X rays to further evaluate what we can’t see directly. We allow an appropriate amount of time so as to assess your condition and allow us to discuss the often wide range of modern dental options available, thus providing quality treatment in an unhurried environment.
We perform this same thorough examination at every check up, and we tailor your check-up frequency to suit your wishes and needs, not necessarily just every 6 months.
Most, if not all, people benefit from preventative dentistry. We will work with you to develop your own personalised preventative plan. This will normally involve you visiting one of our hygienists, for gentle and thorough removal of the deposits that should not be there, coupled with oral hygiene and dietary advice, as appropriate to help you optimise your oral health.
Many people are unaware of the effects on your general health that less than ideal oral health can cause. There is unfortunately an increasing list of medical conditions that seem to be directly attributable to gum disease/inflammation, including heart and circulatory issues, diabetes, kidney problems, and the list is growing all the time – all good reasons to be visiting a preventative dentist regularly!
Preventive dentistry also means performing any necessary repairs to the highest possible standards. I have personally always been heavily committed to on-going postgraduate education to constantly upgrade my knowledge in order to keep my skills bang up to date.
We can therefore offer a full range of cosmetic treatments, where appropriate, including bleaching, porcelain veneers, cosmetic contouring and bonded composites. We only start any treatment once we have discussed exactly what you want, and decided on the best options for your particular circumstance.
Implants have been a major interest of mine for over 30 years, and we are fully trained to deal with all but the most complicated case (that are best handled by specialists in the field).
Straumann • Bicon • Astra
I am trained in, and am familiar with: as well as some systems now considered obsolete such as IMZ and even blades! Owing to a redesign of my preferred Astra system I am currently re-evaluating systems with a view to once again placing implants in our Practice, but I can currently only offer an implant service by referral to a specialist.
Orthodontics (braces) is also something we used to provide in-house, as I have trained with some of the best in the business, but I am now a little rusty and refer out to specialists in the field.
